Coffee & Desire

I’ve heard coffee compared to fine wine
And wine compared to sweet chocolate
And chocolate lauded as better than sex
And sex described as a suspended moment of ecstasy
And ecstasy explained as connection with divine
And I’ve seen a face flush with desire
After a sip of red wine
And I’ve seen eyes flame a focused fire
After a stimulating sip of black brew
And I’ve seen eyes close in surrender
After a bite of dark chocolate
And all of these allusions and comparisons
Burst forth in unsolicited delight
We don’t often fight what feels right
And we’re skilled at making gods out of anything we adore.
